The Difference Between Living and Existing

“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.”
— Marcus Aurelius

A friend once told me: “Protect yourself from your own thoughts.” It was during one of the lowest points of my life. Ten years later, those words are still with me. They help me keep a level head, stay above the noise.

Back then, I felt I had lost everything.

That loss forced me to see what truly matters.

This book is about those things.

People say we’re all living on this planet.

I disagree.

Are we really living? Or just existing?

I know someone close to retirement who’s just realised:

“What’s the point of money now if I don’t have the health to enjoy it?”

We don’t know how much time we have.

I certainly don’t.

That’s why I make the most of the life I’ve been given.

At least try.

There’s no harm in trying.

My motto is simple: Live it up.

Life is stressful.

But stressing about things isn’t worth it.

The day you realise that shouldn’t be the day you’ve already lost everything.

Not having ill thoughts is a superpower.

We’re not superheroes.

We chase happiness endlessly, thinking it’s out there somewhere.

But it’s hiding inside us.

We just have to find it.

Cherish it.

Celebrate it.

Like finding diamonds in the rough.

Right now, as you read this, there are probably ten other things demanding your attention.

But your well-being is more important than all ten combined.

This isn’t procrastination — it’s priorities.

You can’t pour from an empty teapot.

In the end, nothing is more important than you.

Your emotional well-being.

Your physical well-being.

They are not worth sacrificing for anything.

Ask someone lying in a hospital bed.

You’ll understand exactly what I mean.
